To create a new mapping event first make sure that you have set a mapping area and that you do not have an active mapping event. In this case the primary toolbar will show the Mapping event tool.

The mapping event tool provides 3 different modes that can be used to draw the polygon that geometrically defines the boundaries of the mapping event.
